David Hardy
Adobe Photoshop is the industry standard tool for working with digital images of any kind.

Photoshop has a tremendous breadth of uses in various industries ranging from photographers to graphic artists. The program is so flexible, it is is used for both adjusting photographs and creating graphic elements.

We are often asked which Macs are suitable for use with Photoshop.

The minimum recommended specs for Macs are 8GB RAM, OS Big Sur or later (2014 onwards). Graphics Card - GPU with Metal support or
1.5 GB of GPU memory.

The recommended specs for heavy use are macOS Big Sur (version 11), 16 GB RAM or more and a Graphics Card with GPU with Metal support
4 GB of GPU memory for 4k displays and greater.

The storage for both is very much dependent on how many pictures you want to store but you can also get an external hard drive.

This means all of our 14, 15 and 16 inch MacBook Pro's, most of our 27 inch iMacs and the 21 inch iMacs from 2017 with 4K Display are compatible.

Logic Pro - Which Macs are compatible?

David Hardy
Logic Pro - Which Mac is compatible?

Logic Pro is a very popular music creation program - powerful creative tools for professional songwriting, beat-making, editing and mixing.

As with Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro is software created by Apple so suits most Macs.

Anything with OS 11.5 (Big Sur 2014) or later will run Logic and we would recommend 8GB of RAM and minimum 256GB Storage.

An iMac or MacBook Pro or Air will work and is really down to personal preference, if you're out and about or travelling to recording studios go for a MacBook or if you have a home studio an iMac would most likely be preferable.

Here's a link to our full range, just remember to select 8GB of RAM minimum - https://cheshiremacs.com/collections/all

Computer Specifications Explained

David Hardy

Some computer specifications can feel like another language. Some people talk about jargon but sometimes you can be left feeling like you are the only one that doesn’t understand. Rest assured that when you are dealing with CheshireMacs that we will offer you clear information and advice. We are not here to blind you with science, but instead to support you through the purchasing of buying a refurbished iMac or refurbished MacBook.

To fully understand a Mac’s incredible capabilities, it is helpful to understand a computer’s specification. What do we mean by this? We mean the different components that make up the individual device. The main ones to consider are processor, memory and storage.

Computer Specifications Made (More) Simple

Processor (CPU)

Your Mac’s processor is an integrated electronic circuit that orchestrates all the tasks that you run on your Mac. It is made up of hardware that works together to deliver information. This allows your Mac to complete the tasks you request when you open an application or make changes to a file. The processors will affect how fast your projects run and will minimise crashing and delays.

When you are looking to compare processors, benchmark scores are useful as they reflect real world performance. We provide information about processor on each of our devices we sell. If you would like advice on which processor would be best for you, give us a call on 01625 415088. By considering your usage, we will be able to guide you to find the best alternative.

Memory (RAM)

A Mac’s memory can easily be explained as a temporary storage area. It holds data that the Central Processing Unit (CPU) needs. Before a program can run, the program is loaded from storage into the memory. This allows the CPU direct access to the computer program.

The more memory you choose, the more apps or tasks you can run simultaneously and with better performance.

Storage

Storage is where you save files permanently. How much storage you need is a question you will have to ask yourself. There are other options available if you find you do need more storage. If you do need more, you can consider external storage and cloud storage such as iCloud, Dropbox or Google Drive.

Don’t allow yourself to be confused or not understand something about your Mac purchase. We are here to help and more than happy to break everything down into simple and understandable terms. Call our helpful staff today on 01625 415088.

Buying a Mac for a Student

David Hardy

If your child is starting high school or university this month then it is not too late to set them up with a MacBook from us. The following information will work towards showing how a MacBook can be considered a really good investment.

Buying a refurbished MacBook from the right company is an exceptional opportunity. It is not necessary to purchase a brand-new MacBook. Why? All of our refurbished Macs come with a 12-month hardware warranty, and nothing leaves our store until it has been checked, checked and checked again. When you buy your refurbished Apple Mac from us, you can do so with 100% confidence.

Buying a Mac for a Student – will it last?

With the above warranty and confidence, the worry of purchasing a refurbished Mac is completely eliminated. You can be rest-assured that it will see them right through their studies and beyond. Children are so used to Apple devices through personal use and use in school, that they are already very familiar with their set-up.

We sell refurbished Macs which perform like new but are much easier on the bank balance. Please note we also accept Klarna which allows you to purchase and spread the cost over 3 months. We really have thought of everything.

Our stock is always updated on our website but if you have a question or a specific product, please do get in touch by calling 01625 415088.

Things To Consider:

Screen size and portability: Apple has two laptop lines including the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro. These are available in different screen sizes and weights (newer models do weigh less than older ones). If this is a big consideration for you then it is important to get the model right.

Processor speed and RAM: it is really sound advice to purchase the best processor speed and RAM your budget will allow. A bigger processor will be better for those considering using their MacBook for creative work or larger programmes.

Don’t forget that you can use external storage options. This isn’t for everyone so may not work for you but is worth considering when you are looking at storage.

And lastly, don’t forget to buy a case and screen protector. While a MacBook is beautiful, it can also be fragile. A case and screen protector can work to offer great protection while carrying your MacBook around.

Optimise Storage Space on your MacBook

David Hardy

There are some great tips available on how you can optimise storage space for your MacBook. If you are ever unsure or may need a little support, we are always on hand to offer that. Restored Macs need looking after. It is really important to find ways in which you can best do this routinely to get the most from your MacBook.

How do I Optimise Storage Space?

From the Apple menu button in the corner of your screen, select ‘About This Mac’. This will then give you the option to click on ‘Storage’. This will estimate the amount of both used and available storage space you have available. When this is calculated, it will offer you a visual breakdown in different segments. These will all represent different categories or files.

Optimise Storage Space

From this point, you should click on the ‘Manage’ button. This will open the storage management window which should look like this. To begin optimising storage space for your MacBook, choose from the features such as ‘Store in iCloud’, ‘Optimise Storage’ and ‘Reduce Clutter’.

Optimising Storage Space

Each will take you through options to reduce any unnecessary elements, taking up space on your MacBook. Feeling cleansed? As you go through these options, it is important that you carefully consider how you use your MacBook. Make sure that the programmes and elements that you need are easily accessible.

This is not an exercise in making life harder for yourself. Instead, it is something that you should do routinely to make your MacBook work smarter for you. You can measure your progress (or success) in optimising space by referring back to the amount of ‘available’ space shown.

Need more help? There are also other ways in which you can free up space. Music, movies and podcasts can take up a lot of storage on your computer. Make sure that ones that you do not intend keeping are regularly deleted.

We are not always aware of the files that we have on our computer. Regularly review these to make sure that not needed files and downloads are removed. Don’t forget to empty your recycle bin and keep everything up to date.

Investing a little time into this process will offer you great reward. You will get more from your MacBook, and it will work more efficiently for you. Move unused files to external storage. This is a really smart way of systematically clearing files that you may need to reference but do not need on your MacBook. We offer repairs and servicing on all Macs as well as being an independent Mac seller. Contact us anytime via message or call us on 01625 415 088.
